Why Get Lymphatic Drainage Massage?
Until recently, very little was known about the lymphatic system and its part in health and longevity.
The lymphatic system is made up of tissues, organs, nodes, vessels, and fluids. It plays a hand in every other system of the body, including cardiovascular, neurological, immune, and more.
The lymphatic system helps clear toxins and cellular debris from the body and also delivers nutrients. Like an aquarium, the lymphatic system is constantly at work filtering bits of lymphatic fluid, which supports cellular health. When people have flowing lymphatic systems they are less likely to get sick and quicker to bounce back when they do.
The lymphatic system is likened to the ‘Cinderella’ of the body—underappreciated, but doing the heavy lifting.
Without a central pump, like the heart, the lymphatic system relies on activity to keep the lymph flowing. In the case of injury, trauma to the tissues, or even eating too much salt, the lymphatic system might need some extra support.
Lymphatic massage works to mimic the lymphatic system with gentle, rhythmic moves that stretch the skin. This works to draw stagnant fluids out of the tissues so it can be filtered and recycled by the lymph nodes.
The lymphatic system regulates the fluids in the body (like swelling) and stimulates the immune system. A healthy and smooth-flowing lymphatic system is a key factor in longevity by eliminating toxins and waste products that can result in injury, inflammation, and disease.
Reasons people come for a lymphatic massage:
-injury
-post surgery swelling or scar tissue
-traveler's edema
-immune or allergy needs
-chronic sinus infection
-lower blood pressure
-inflammation, both localized and systemic
-improves skin quality, including cellulite
-headaches
-sluggish digestion
-relieves stress and tension
Personally I see it as physical and spiritual work. Lymphatic clients are often most likely to open up to me during a session—I believe sharing your story helps release and move whatever feels stuck.
